Dorothy Heller worked as a Social Investigator for the Colorado Springs Police Department from 1934-1965.  As one of the first women to work for the city’s police, her efforts focused on the troubled lives of women and children through such concerns as domestic violence, juvenile delinquency, and child abuse, three issues that received little public support during the mid-twentieth century.  During her tenure, Heller participated in many civic discussions regarding the building of civic infrastructure to address the growing problems of women and children in precarious situations.  She was on the 1962 founding team of the Juvenile Bureau.  Dorothy Heller & Her Causes  showcases the growth of these topics as academic disciplines.
