Code of Conduct
All users of the Kraemer Family Library should feel welcome and safe. Any activity that impedes or excludes others from using the Library’s facilities, services, and resources as intended are prohibited.
Use of the Library Building
- Treat staff and users with respect. Harassing, threatening, intimidating, or rude behavior is prohibited.
- Avoid excessive noise that might be disruptive to other Library users, and follow any signage posted in designated areas. While the 2nd floor is generally organized to encourage collaborative work and the 3rd floor for individual study, the only designated quiet study area is on the 3rd floor between the stairs and the University Center.
- Eating is permitted in the Library so long as food is consumed responsibly and cleaned up afterwards.
- Respond to emergency alarms and other situations as instructed by staff; leave the buildings at closing.
- Filming in the Library must follow University Filming Guidelines and requires pre-approval.
- No destruction of library property, materials, or furniture, or acts of vandalism.
- No smoking or vaping in the building.
- Never leave personal items unattended. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
- No soliciting, peddling, petitioning, or vendors in the Library.
- No sleeping for extended periods of time in the Library.
- Do not leave children under the age of 14 unsupervised.
- Service animals are permitted in the Library. Please refer to these guidelines.
- Abuse of study room policies may result in the loss of room privileges.
- The Reflective Space, the Lactation Space, the Parent Child Study Room, and other specialized rooms are to be used for their designated purposes only.
Use of Library Resources
- Respect the rights of other users to access library materials. Deliberate misplacement of library materials, or the deliberate postponement of returning library materials, is prohibited.
- Care for library books and other materials properly. Library materials should not be written on or defaced in any way. Users are responsible for the care of items checked out to them.
- Use computers within the guidelines of the UCCS Responsible Computing Policy.
- The library's licensing agreements with online resource providers often require users to comply with acceptable use policies. These prohibit some activities, including systematic downloading and sharing account access with unauthorized users. Individuals whose accounts are found to violate license terms may be contacted by library staff and may have their access to resources disabled.
Enforcement
Anyone who violates this code of conduct will be asked to cease the prohibited behavior and/or leave the Library. If these guidelines are violated and requests to comply are disregarded, staff members are instructed to contact the UCCS Police. Repeated or serious violations may result in being banned from the building.
